Summer IT Project Update

Happy Summer from the Information Technology Services (ITS) team!  Please read on for information highlighting several technology projects currently on the IT Project Dashboard, including recent project completions and major projects in progress.  For a complete list of all active and proposed projects and information on how to submit a technology project request, please visit the Technology Projects website.

Recent Project Completions (SLT Sponsorship): 

  • Sparks Farm Network Upgrades (Bowen) – Updates to the technology infrastructure at Sparks Farm have been completed increasing Internet speeds and expanding WiFi connectivity on the property.
  • Datacenter Cloud Assessment & Plan (All) - A technical plan to migrate cloud ready services to a new cloud datacenter has been created.  
  • Greycastle IT Security Policy Updates (All) – Established updated information security policies for the campus.
  • Financial Aid System Selection (Moran) – Selected PowerFaids Cloud as our future state system for supporting financial aid decision making, awarding, and management.  This migration will happen FY26.
  • Colleague SQL Impact Assessment (All) - Assessed impact and determined costs to migrate Colleague from a proprietary database to a Microsoft solution to improve support, integration, and reporting.
  • Campus Door Access Control Solution (Damschroder) – Identified Transact/Genea as our future solution for campus wide door access control.
  • Halbritter/Rosenberger Renovations and Streaming Network (All) – Renovations to space are completed and networking has been put in place to support live streaming.
  • Updated Information Security Training Program (All) – Monthly phishing testing and a biannual video training strategy have been deployed to campus employees.
  • Relocation of Biology Servers to BAC (Bowen) – The biology servers have been successfully moved to the campus datacenter to ensure proper environmental controls and physical security.

Major Projects in Progress (SLT Sponsorship):

  • Colleague Chart of Accounts & Self-Service Budget (Scaccia) - Redesign the Colleague Chart of Accounts (GL) to meet current and future budget planning and reporting needs.  Implement Colleague Self-Service for budget management and reporting.
  • Campus Network Upgrade (All) - New network infrastructure will be placed in the majority of campus buildings over the break.
  • Virtual Server Infrastructure Upgrade (All) - New servers will be installed and migrated to over the next several weeks.
  • Computers Replacements (All) - New computers will replace 7 year old computers across campus.
  • CRM Advance (Watt) - The project to implement a new CRM for advancement has begun and is scheduled to be completed in May 2025.
  • Athletic Recruitment System (Damschroder) - ARMS was selected and approved as the new athletic recruitment system and will replace FrontRush over the next several weeks.
  • Campus Calendar (Homan) - Identify improvements for campus calendar, including a potential redesign of in-house solution or the purchase of a new solution.
  • Point to Point Wireless Solution for Nearby Campus Properties (Scaccia) – Nearby off network properties that have been receiving Internet services via Comcast are being moved on to Juniata’s campus network via a wireless point to point solution.

March IT Project Update

The information below highlights technology projects currently on the IT Project Dashboard, including project completions and major projects in progress between 11/21/23 and 3/20/24.

Recent Project Completions (SLT Sponsorship): 

  • New Faculty Information SharePoint Sites (Bowen) - SharePoint sites were created for hosting Faculty information with quick access linked on the Arch under the Employee Channel on the Faculty Academics page.
  • Mobile Ticketing Solution (All) - EventBrite was selected as a new online mobile ticketing solution and will be piloted with Senior Salute.  Contact Adam Steele if you are interested in using EventBrite!
  • Microsoft Stream Migration (All) - All videos stored in the old Stream platform were migrated to SharePoint.  For those linking to videos from other platforms (like Moodle), don't forget to update your links by 2/15/25!
  • Moodle Migration (Bowen) - Moodle upgraded and migrated to new more secure servers.
  • Net Price Calculator (Moran) - Updates were made to align the Net Price Calculator with upcoming Financial Aid award strategies and to support the updates to the FAFSA application.
  • External Document Sharing and Collaboration (All) - A solution has been identified to enable document sharing and collaboration between Juniata users and external parties.
  • Merged Call Center (Watt/Moran) - A merged call center was established in the basement of Enrollment to support calling to both prospective students and donors. 
  • Sparks Farm (Bowen) - New high-speed Internet Service and property WiFi was installed at the observatory, house, and pavilion. 
  • Statton Learning Commons (Bowen) - The Statton Learning Commons was outfitted with exciting technology throughout all levels. 
  • Cyber Security Awareness Training (All) - All required users completed the 23-24 annual cyber security awareness training program.
  • External Penetration Test (All) - An external pen test was completed to test the security of Juniata's network perimeter.  There were no major issues identified.

November IT Project Update

The information below highlights technology projects currently on the IT Project Dashboard, including project completions and major projects in progress between 10/2/23 and 11/21/23.

Recent Project Completions (SLT Sponsorship): 

  • Advancement CRM Solution Selection (Watt) - Ellucian CRM Advance has been selected to improve operational efficiency and modernize technology tools that support fundraising.  Project scheduling is underway.
  • Curriculum Management Solution Selection (Bowen) - CourseDog has been selected to improve operational efficiency, institutional academic planning, and the student planning experience.  Timing to be determined.
  • Portal Solution Demos and Selection (All) - Pathify has been selected to replace the Arch that will Improve campus communication and access to information, services, resources.  Timing to be determined.
  • Informer Upgrade and Security Classifications (All) - Informer was upgraded to the latest version on 11/9/23 and new security classifications have been deployed to enhance information security.

Major Projects in Progress (SLT Sponsorship):

  • Slate to Colleague Integration (Moran/Damschroder) - Automated data flowing from Slate to Colleague to create operational efficiency and reduce the time to onboard new students.
  • Presence Student Engagement Platform (Damschroder) - Implemented a new platform to organize information and communication for student organizations and other related opportunities.
  • Campus Phone Service Migration (All) – Migrated all inbound/outbound calling to new hardware to ensure reliable voice communications for campus.
  • Account Automation & New Username/Email Address Naming Convention (All) - Automated the creation of all employee and student user/email accounts to improve operational efficiency and reduce onboarding time.
