Reporting a Phishing Email

There are several ways users can report suspected phishing or malicious emails to the IT Security Team for review. The sooner these messages are reported, the quicker any risks can be mitigated. Once received, a member or members of the IT Security Team will review the message and determine the appropriate course of action. Please see the reporting options based upon your email client. If you do not see the Phish Alert Button or Add-in within your preferred email client, please see the section below titled "Without the use of the Phish Alert Button or Add-in".

Using the Phish Alert Button in Windows Outlook or MacOS Outlook desktop client:

  1. Click the suspected phishing email to select it.
  2. Click the Phish Alert Report button on the Home or Message ribbon in the upper right corner of your Outlook window.
  3. Click the Report Phishing button on the Phish Alert V2 popout window.
  4. You should receive a "Thank you" message that your submission was processed.
  5. Click OK to close the window if the message does not close automatically.

Using the Phish Alert Add-in in Office 365/Outlook on the Web (webmail):

  1. Click the suspected phishing email to select it.
  2. Click the button with the ... button (three dots) to the right of the Like, Reply and Forward buttons.
  3. Scroll down then click the Phish Alert V2 option.
  4. Click the Report Phishing button on the Phish Alert V2 popout window.
  5. You should receive a "Thank you" message that your submission was processed.
  6. Click OK to close the window.

Using the Phish Alert Add-in in Outlook mobile app (iOS and Android):

  1. Tap the suspected phishing email to open it.
  2. Tap the ... button (three dots) just beneath the email timestamp.
  3. Tap the Phish Alert button.
  4. Tap the Report Phishing button on the Phish Alert V2 popup window.
  5. You should receive a "Thank you" message that your submission was processed.
  6. Tap OK to close the window if the message does not close automatically.

Without the use of the Phish Alert Button or Add-in:

  1. Click or tap the suspected phishing email to select it.
  2. Click of tap the Forward As Attachment or Forward button. The Forward As Attachment method is preferred, as it preserves important original message data.
  3. Enter phishing@juniata.edu into the "To:" field.
  4. Click the Send button.
